Real-Life Math -- Solution

Here's what your letter could say:

Dear Dr. Choy,

I am referring to you Alan Shopsy, a patient with a skin condition that goes beyond my means. While I am trained to alleviate the suffering brought on by what looks like a common form of skin cancer, perhaps it would be better if you took a look.

Mr. Shopsy has seen other doctors before me, with similarly poor results. In three months, I have administered Erythromycin, Minocin, Dapsone, Keflex and CIPRO. Unfortunately, none of these drugs had any real effect.

Mr. Shopsy is growing quite frustrated at this point, and understandably so. However, before he is to get the news that he has what looks like skin cancer, I would like your opinion on the matter. After you make your diagnosis, we can decide on the proper course of action.
