The Board of Governors Associate in Applied Science (BOG AAS) is
a flexible degree program designed for busy adult students.
All of West Virginia's public community and technical colleges
offer the program. BOG AAS is perfect for working adults or
individuals with family commitments or other obligations because
BOG AAS students can create an individualized degree plan by
combining:
- Previously earned college credits;
- Credits earned for work and prior learning experience;
- Credits awarded through standardized testing; and
- Traditional or distance-learning courses offered through the
West Virginia's ten community and technical colleges.
That means the program is perfect for adults who have completed
some college classes because any credits you have earned in the
past can often count toward your degree - even if you have been out
of school for a long time. You may even be able to count some of
the knowledge you've gained from work and prior learning
experience toward college credit. Plus, you can take classes
to finish earning your degree at your own pace and on your own
schedule.
BOG AAS allows you to build a degree program that works for you.

Admission Requirements:
Students are eligible for admission to the program two years after
high school graduation. Students must not hold a degree from an
accredited institution nor be enrolled simultaneously in another
degree program.
Fees:
There is no special application fee for admission to the program.
Registration and service fees for enrollment in courses are
determined according to the established fee schedule at each
college. A fee of $300 is charged for a portfolio evaluation of
work and prior learning experience.
Degree Requirements:
The Board of Governors Associate in Applied Science program
consists of 60 credit hours. These hours include 21 credit hours of
general education courses in communications, social science,
computer literacy, and math/science. The remainder consists of 39
credit hours of general electives which may be met through your
individual educational degree plan.

WVROCKS
Finding classes to take that fit into the schedule of the adult
learner can be difficult. In an effort to make college more
accessible to all West Virginians, the Higher Education Policy
Commission (HEPC), with assistance from WVNET, developed a web
portal, the West Virginia Remote Online Collaborative Knowledge
System (WVROCKS). WVROCKS is designed to be a collaborative effort
between all West Virginia higher education institutions who offer
the Board of Governors degree. Courses offered on the portal are
all 100-200 level courses. The courses are all 100% online and
offered in an eight week time frame. It is possible for students
taking classes on the portal to complete 12 hours of course credit
per year by taking one course at a time.
Students interested in taking WVROCKS classes
must enroll and be admitted to the Board of Governors program at an
affiliated institution.
Faculty teaching classes are all West Virginia
higher education faculty who have a master's degree or higher in
their field and who have been trained on best practices for online
course development and teaching.
Courses are offered online in an eight-week
compressed format and have been designed to meet Quality Matters
(QM) Standards. Students have the opportunity to begin classes
twice during the regular semester with efforts being made to
increase the number of enrollment opportunities.

enhanced opportunities for adult students through the WVROCKS
program. Begin by exploring the school that you're most interested
